LOCATION
Determine if your containers are going to be located in mostly afternoon sun or shade.
COLOR STYLE
Choose a color style that matches your outside home décor.
SIZE OF CONTAINERS
Bring the containers that you already have and we can help you choose additional pots to compliment what you have. Large, deep pots are best, especially in sunny locations. If they are too shallow, they will dry out quickly. Containers must have at least 2-3 holes in the bottom to allow for proper drainage.
ADD NEW ORGANIC SOIL
Each year, you should add at least 1/3 new organic potting soil to your existing soil. Incorporate Soil Moist to your soil before you plant to reduce watering, to reduce transplant shock and to absorb nutrients for your plants. Evergreen Potting Soil is blended for proper water absorption and proper drainage.
FERTILIZER
Add BloomKote fertilizer to the top of your soil. This timed release fertilizer will properly feed your plants for at least 2 months with no additional liquid fertilizers.
COVER LARGE HOLES IN CONTAINERS
If you have large holes in the bottom of your containers, place a layer of newspaper, gravel or broken clay pots over the hole to keep soil from exiting out the holes.
ADD PREPARED SOIL TO CONTAINER
Fill your container with soil and lightly compress to the level so you can space your plants properly. Backfill, as needed, and compress slightly.
CHOOSE PLANTS
Choose fillers, spillers and fillers for balanced plant growth. Thrillers grow taller, spillers trail over the edge of the pots and fillers fill out the center areas.
SPACE, DESIGN AND PLANT
Firmly fill the space around the plants with soil, and leave 2 inches of space on top of the plant.
WATER
Water your plants immediately to settle the soil in your containers. It is better to water several times the first day rather than to soak the soil just once.
Now you are the home and garden designer of the summer!
