Choosing Tomato Varieties

Tomatoes are our most popular vegetable every single year. We carry a huge selection of tomato varieties (but still nothing close to the roughly 10,000 varieties available!) If you get overwhelmed with picking the right variety then this chart should help. If you don’t know where to start then try starting by color since the color often determines more of the flavor then choose what attributes you also want from there.

Those who can will probably look for determinate paste tomatoes while those who love fresh garden tomatoes may try cherry tomatoes for their abundant fresh harvest until frost. Sandwich eaters will gravitate towards Beefstakes and some people just want to find unique varieties for fun! We don’t think you can go wrong choosing a tomato so maybe try a few different kinds this year and see what you like best.

If planting in a pot, I like to go for an organic potting soil but you can use any potting soil. Use a Tomato or vegetable fertilizer when planting for nutrients. If planting in the ground, then amend your soil with a good quality amendment like composted mushroom or cow manure.
